And he had gone about among the people,

preaching to them that which he termed to be the word of God,

bearing down against the church;

declaring unto the people

that every priest and teacher ought to become popular;

and they ought not to labor with their hands,

but that they ought to be supported by the people.

Alma 2:10

Now when Amlici was made king over them

he commanded them that they should take up arms against their brethren;

and this he did that he might subject them to him.

And Alma sent spies to follow the remnant of the Amlicites,

that he might know of their plans and their plots,

whereby he might guard himself against them,

that he might preserve his people from being destroyed.

Thus the word of God is fulfilled,

for these are the words which he said to Nephi:

Behold, the Lamanites have I cursed,

and I will set a mark on them

that they and their seed may be separated from thee and thy seed,

from this time henceforth and forever,

except they repent of their wickedness and turn to me

that I may have mercy upon them.
