Alma 1:3

And he had gone about among the people,

preaching to them that which he termed to be the word of God,

bearing down against the church;

declaring unto the people

that every priest and teacher ought to become popular;

and they ought not to labor with their hands,

but that they ought to be supported by the people.

Alma 1:8

Now the name of the man was Gideon;

and it was he who was an instrument in the hands of God

in delivering the people of Limhi out of bondage.

Alma 2:28

Nevertheless, the Nephites being strengthened by the hand of the Lord,

having prayed mightily to him

that he would deliver them out of the hands of their enemies,

therefore the Lord did hear their cries, and did strengthen them,

and the Lamanites and the Amlicites did fall before them.

And it came to pass that Alma, being a man of God,

being exercised with much faith,

cried, saying:

O Lord, have mercy and spare my life,

that I may be an instrument in thy hands to save and preserve this people.
