behold, the people came running together

with their armor girded about their loins,

rending their garments in token, or as a covenant,

or, in other words, if they should transgress the commandments of God,

or fall into transgression,

and be ashamed to take upon them the name of Christ,

the Lord should rend them even as they had rent their garments.

Alma 46:22

Now this was the covenant which they made,

and they cast their garments at the feet of Moroni, saying:

We covenant with our God, that we shall be destroyed,

even as we have cast our garments at thy feet

to be trodden under foot, if we shall fall into transgression.

And it came to pass that when Lehonti had come down

with his guards to Amalickiah,

that Amalickiah desired him to come down with his army in the night-time,

if he would make him (Amalickiah) a second leader over the whole army.

except it were against an enemy,

except it were to preserve their lives.

Alma 48:15

And this was their faith,

that by so doing God would prosper them in the land,

or in other words, if they were faithful in keeping the commandments of God

that he would prosper them in the land;

yea, warn them to flee, or to prepare for war, according to their danger;

Alma 48:17

Yea, verily, verily I say unto you,

if all men had been, and were, and ever would be, like unto Moroni,

yea, the devil would never have power over the hearts of the children of men.

Alma 48:25

Yea, they could not bear

that their brethren should rejoice over the blood of the Nephites,

so long as there were any who should keep the commandments of God,

for the promise of the Lord was,

if they should keep his commandments

they should prosper in the land.

Alma 49:10

Now, if king Amalickiah had come down out of the land of Nephi,

at the head of his army,

perhaps he would have caused

the Lamanites to have attacked the Nephites at the city of Ammonihah;

for behold, he did care not for the blood of his people.
