they heard a voice as if it came out of heaven;
and they cast their eyes round about,
for they understood not the voice which they heard;
and it was not a harsh voice, neither was it a loud voice;
nevertheless, and notwithstanding it being a small voice
it did pierce them that did hear to the center,
insomuch that there was no part of their frame that it did not cause to quake;
yea, it did pierce them to the very soul, and did cause their hearts to burn.

and have been slain for the sins of the world.

and did bear record, that it was he,
of whom it was written by the prophets,
that should come.

unto Nephi, and to those who had been called,
(now the number of them who had been called,
and received power and authority to baptize, was twelve)
and behold, he stretched forth his hand unto the multitude,
and cried unto them, saying:
Blessed are ye if ye shall give heed unto the words of these twelve
whom I have chosen from among you
to minister unto you, and to be your servants;
and unto them I have given power
that they may baptize you with water;

after that ye have seen me and know that I am.
